OLM Digital R&D: Present and Future Challenges

  • Shinji Ogaki, Gengdai Liu, Ken Anjyo
    This industrial presentation demonstrates several animation works created by OLM Digital as well as the behind-the-scene techniques developed by its R&D division. Our focus in this talk is on how to develop in-house software tools usable in practice, while considering a variety of feature films and TV programs, ranging from Japanese anime, full 3D CG feature films, and live action films. It will also be described how to establish industry-academia collaboration for developing future technology.
  • Shinji Ogaki is a senior researcher at OLM Digital. After working for a few big studios including Square Enix, he joined the company in 2013. He has been developing shaders and image processing tools to help artists.
  • Gengdai Liu is currently a researcher at OLM Digital Inc in Japan. He has been working on character rigging, deformation and animation. He received his PhD in Computer Science at State Key Lab of CAD&CG of Zhejiang University in 2009.
  • Ken Anjyo, R&D supervisor at OLM Digital. He’s been leading the R&D division since he established it in 2000. He is co-founder of the Digital Production Symposium (DigiPro, 2012-), and served as SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Courses Program co-chair.

Crytek: Forging the Path to Real-Time Virtual Cinema

  • Jean-Colas Pruner, Creative Director Film Engine
    Jean-Colas has worked in the VFX industry for more than 20 years. Inspired by a conference in which John Lasseter the world famous Toy Story director presented his early CG short films from Pixar, Jean-Colas decided to join ExMachina the foremost CG animation studio in Europe in the early 90s. He then moved to the US to work on breakthrough hardware-accelerared 3D rendering technology before joining ILM and shortly afterwards Weta Digital New Zealand where he worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Avatar among other films.
