OLM Digital R&D: Present and Future Challenges

- Shinji Ogaki, Gengdai Liu, Ken Anjyo
This industrial presentation demonstrates several animation works created by OLM Digital as well as the behind-the-scene techniques developed by its R&D division. Our focus in this talk is on how to develop in-house software tools usable in practice, while considering a variety of feature films and TV programs, ranging from Japanese anime, full 3D CG feature films, and live action films. It will also be described how to establish industry-academia collaboration for developing future technology.
- Shinji Ogaki is a senior researcher at OLM Digital. After working for a few big studios including Square Enix, he joined the company in 2013. He has been developing shaders and image processing tools to help artists.
- Gengdai Liu is currently a researcher at OLM Digital Inc in Japan. He has been working on character rigging, deformation and animation. He received his PhD in Computer Science at State Key Lab of CAD&CG of Zhejiang University in 2009.
- Ken Anjyo, R&D supervisor at OLM Digital. He’s been leading the R&D division since he established it in 2000. He is co-founder of the Digital Production Symposium (DigiPro, 2012-), and served as SIGGRAPH Asia 2015 Courses Program co-chair.
