Transportation
Unlike other airports across Europe, the Lisbon Airport (Portela International Airport) is located close to city center of Lisbon. More importantly, it is very close to FIL Conference Center, so you don’t have to travel a long time after landing in the airport.
Public transport in Lisbon consists of buses (Carris), trams (Carris) and underground (Metro). The card “Cartão Viva Viagem” gives you the opportunity to travel around the city using all means of transportation. At the start you also need to buy a rechargeable Viva Viagem card which is an extra €0,50. You can charge the card in multiples of €5,00 and use it by “zapping” individual journeys at €1,40 a time. Do not throw the card away, it can be reloaded at any time.
By Underground (Metro)
From the airport to FIL Conference Center (and hotels nearby), please take the Red Line (Linha Vermelha in Portuguese) to Oriente Station. To make sure about the metro lines, please have a look at Metro map.
To travel from Lisbon Airport to the centre of the city it may be quickest to take the metro, taking you to Saldanha station (financial centre of Lisbon) in just 15 minutes. You can buy a one-way ticket for €1,40, or a 24-hour pass for €6 (which allows you to use the metro and buses – but not trains). All of these options are available from the ticket machines, which have an easy-to-use menu in English. Full fare information is available at Lisbon Metro Fare Information. For further details please have a look at the Lisbon Metro Guide.
By Aerobus
Airport buses (aerobuses) towards the city centre (Line 1) and Financial District (Line 2) are operated by Yellowbus. There is no aerobus passing close to FIL Conference Center, unless the Olisipo Tour aerobus for sightseeing purposes. For full details including list of places served is available at the Yellowbus website page.
The Line 1 aerobus leaves the airport every 20-30 minutes from 7am to 11pm toward the city center, terminating at Cais do Sodré, while the Line 2 aerobus terminates at Avenida José Malhoa (Sul). A ticket which is valid all day costs 3.95€, and can be bought onboard. This ticket covers not only the aerobus journey, but any journey made on the Carris network on that day (buses, trams and funiculars); this does NOT include the Metro.
The buses used on the aerobus service have large luggage racks inside. Aerobuses depart from outside the arrivals hall, a little further away from the Taxi Rank.
