In order to submit to EuroVis 2019, authors prepare their submissions as a PDF file using the EuroVis 2019 LaTeX2e Style (including a document class, a style file, a sample source file, and a corresponding PDF output file). Use EGauthorGuidelines-eurovis19-full.tex for your submission.

Please make sure that an image embedded in your paper does not contain transparent pixels (i.e., an alpha channel of a transparent color) because this will lead to problems when the resulting PDF is displayed or printed.

Submissions can also include supplementary material such as videos or executable programs. The server will accept uploads of at most 200 MB, so multiple files of over 200 MB must be submitted separately. We encourage the use of digital videos to support paper submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs (e.g., MP4 format using the H.264 codec) to maximize the chances that the reviewers can see it.

We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (including all images but excluding references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra contents.

Abstracts and full papers are submitted using the Precision Conference System (PCS).

EuroVis 2019 uses a double-blind review process for the first review cycle. Author identities will be hidden from the external reviewers. Authors should therefore not include their name or institution on the cover page of the initial submission and should make an effort to ensure that there is no self-revealing information in the text. However, you will still need to provide a complete list of authors when submitting your abstract so that members of the program committee can avoid conflicts of interest during reviewer assignment. All authors must be specified in the submission system (but not in the paper) at the time of the submission. Adding additional authors after the acceptance of a paper is not acceptable.

All submissions must be original works that have not been published previously in any conference proceedings, magazine, journal, or edited book. Concurrent submissions are strictly forbidden. If it is determined that a manuscript is simultaneously under the consideration by another publication venue, the manuscript will be rejected.

We expect that the submissions will clearly discuss the novel and significant contributions as well as place them in the context of prior art in the field. Authors should highlight how their contributions differ from previous work and advance the state of the art in visualization. Among the venues for important prior art are journals such as Computer Graphics Forum and IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics as well as conferences like EuroVis, SciVis, InfoVis, VAST, and PacificVis.

Authors should cite all relevant previous work and clearly explain the differences between it and their paper, including their own previous work. Authors should do this in a way that does not reveal which references are part of their own work. For example, do not write “In our previous work on foobar [13] … ” and then have “[13] Removed for blind review” for the citation. Instead, discuss the work in the third person: “We build on the previous work of Smith et al. [13] … ” and include the full reference details. If it is impossible to do so, for instance, because the work is submitted but not yet publicly available, then include an anonymized version of the relevant document(s) with your submission as supplemental material. Authors do not include an acknowledgments section in the initial submission, nor should they post their submitted manuscript on the web before the notification date.

For papers that have previously been reviewed for other venues and have been rejected or withdrawn, the authors can provide a cover letter describing the changes they have made to comply with reviewers’ comments and requests. This procedure is strongly recommended and it is meant to improve the efficiency of the reviewing process but does not imply reviewer continuity. The cover letter is submitted as an ‘Additional Material’.

All full papers accepted to EuroVis 2019 appear in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, containing the conference proceedings, and will appear at the same time in the Eurographics digital library.

Note that for each full paper the submission of an abstract is mandatory by the abstract deadline, with completed papers due on by the full paper deadline. If you do not submit an abstract by this deadline, you will not be able to submit a paper. For the abstract submission, you need to fill out the parts about the title, authors, paper type, abstract, and keywords in the form. The remaining fields (the document, additional material) only have to be submitted by the final deadline (see Important Dates). Make sure that you select the correct paper type and choose appropriate keywords. If multiple paper type categories apply, select the one which best fits your paper.

Full papers will undergo a revision and review cycle after initial notification of review results, in order to ensure they are acceptable for publication and presentation in the journal. At least one author of an accepted paper must register (pay before May 12th) and attend the conference to present the work, and authors will also be required to present a brief (less than one-minute) summary of their talk at the opening papers preview session (also called papers fast-forward).

Contributions must be written and presented in English.

// STAR Papers

Due to the fact that all accepted STARs will be published in Computer Graphics Forum, the submission process uses a multiple-stage reviewing. The submission process is as follows:

  1. Submit a STAR sketch by October 14th. The length of a STAR sketch main text is limited to 2 pages. References and short biographies are considered extra pages and are not counted within the two-page limit. The format of the sketch should follow the format specified in the formatting instructions for the STAR below. STAR sketches will be reviewed by the STAR IPC and comments on suitability and relevance will be provided by November 5th.
  2. According to the feedback given by the IPC members, the authors can submit a full STAR by February 2nd. Given recent changes on the EUROGRAPHICS policy on STARs length, we adapt accordingly the requirements for EuroVis 2019. We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted STARs. However, it is unusual for STARs to exceed 20 pages including all images but excluding references. STARs should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra contents. To submit, please go to “submissions in progress” in PCS. Full STAR submissions will then undergo a single-blind, double-cycle review, similar to the one for regular papers, where three external experts on the respective topic will evaluate the STAR.
  3. Once your full STAR submission has been accepted or conditionally accepted, submit your revised version together with a cover letter detailing your changes by April 16th. To do so, please go to “submissions in progress” in PCS.
// Formatting Instructions

The sketch, as well as the full STAR, should be submitted as a PDF file using the STAR Sketch, adapted from the version for full papers, but that explicitly describes the information required for this part of the submission (the archive includes a document class, a style file, a sample source file, and a corresponding PDF output file). For the full version submission of the STAR, use the LaTeX2e Style template. Use EGauthorGuidelines-eurovis19-star.tex for your submission.

A state-of-the-art report submitted to EuroVis 2019 must be original, unpublished work. Any work that has previously been published or simultaneously been submitted in a substantially similar form to any other conference or journal will be rejected.

All STAR papers accepted to EuroVis 2019 appear in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, containing the conference proceedings, and will appear at the same time in the Eurographics digital library.

At EuroVis 2019, the authors of a STAR will be invited to present the report at a level that also allows non-experts in the particular domain to follow their presentation. We plan to schedule each STAR as a 40-100 minutes presentation as in Eurographics conferences (subject to the schedule management of the EuroVis 2019 programme, but ensuring that STAR presentations will be given a longer time slot than those of full papers). At least one author of an accepted paper must register (pay before May 12th) and attend the conference to present the work, and authors will also be required to present a brief (less than one-minute) summary of their talk at the opening papers preview session (also called papers fast-forward).

Contributions must be written and presented in English.

In order to submit to EuroVis 2019 posters, authors prepare their submission as a 2-page PDF file (“sketch”) using the EuroVis 2019 LaTeX2e Style (including a document class, a style file, a sample source file, and a corresponding PDF output file). Use EGauthorGuidelines-eurovis19-poster.tex for your submission.

Please make sure that an image embedded in your poster sketch does not contain transparent pixels (i.e., an alpha channel of a transparent color), because this will lead to problems when the resulting PDF is displayed or printed.

Submissions can also include supplementary material such as videos or executable programs. The server will accept uploads of at most 200 MB, so multiple files of over 200 MB must be submitted separately. We encourage the use of digital videos to support poster submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs (e.g., MP4 format using the H.264 codec) to maximize the chances that the reviewers can see it.

A poster draft can also be added as additional material but is not mandatory for the submission. The final posters should be printed on paper no larger than paper size A0 (or A1) portrait (84.1cm x 118.9cm = 33.1in x 46.8in, cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size )

// CAMERA-READY GUIDELINES

We ask authors of accepted papers and posters to submit their final material by the camera ready deadline through the PCS. To do so, please go to “submissions in progress”. There, you can upload your final submission. Additionally, you may update your supplementary material. Make sure that you provide all required information in PCS. Additionally, for each paper the authors need to fill in and sign the copyright form that will be provided and send it to Eurographics publishing. This can be done by faxing it to the number on the form or by sending a scan as PDF to publishing-support@eg.org. For your camera-ready manuscript submission, please carefully verify that your paper is provided in the correct format. Specifically, please closely check that your paper adheres to all of the following points:

  • Carefully read the authors guidelines above and make sure you follow them when preparing your final submission.
  • The type setting of your paper needs to closely follow the guidelines in the template. You must use the camera-ready format, i.e., with authors and acknowledgments included, etc. (your final version, for example, should not include any page numbers).
  • All fonts should be embedded within the final paper PDF (this is a requirement of the publisher).
  • Make sure that the images that you include are not downsampled, but in high resolution (otherwise, their reproduction in the printed journal issue will not be high quality).
  • The publisher remarks that it would be good to have the included images in the CMYK color model.
  • Your final paper submission should adhere to the length restrictions specified in the formatting instructions for the respective paper types.
