ICGI 2024 reunited more than 50 researchers

ICGI 2024 took place at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, UTAD. The event welcomed around 50 participants from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. It counted with 22 communications and 2 poster sessions.

Among the standout moments were the keynote speeches:

  • Sylvia Xueni Pan, a professor at the University of London and a virtual reality specialist, presented an engaging talk on “Virtual Social Interaction”, examining how social interaction can be transformed through virtual environments.
  • Professor António Augusto Sousa and Dr. João Cunha revisited the history of the Graphics and Geometric Computing Group (GPCG) in their keynote “Origin and Path of GPCG”, highlighting the motivations, evolution, and achievements of the group over more than 35 years.

Professor José Luis Encarnação was also presented at the conference. The Professor José Luís Encarnação Award was established in 2010 to honor the best scientific work in computer graphics developed by a student. This year’s award went to Diogo Almeida for his paper “SIT6: Indirect touch-based object manipulation for DeskVR”, supervised by Rui Rodrigues and Daniel Mendes, researchers at INESC TEC.
